2021 RE:Her Relief Grant

Last June 2021, in partnership with DoorDash, RE:Her awarded $10,000 cash grants to 15 women-owned restaurants in Los Angeles County. (Learn all about our programs HERE.) The anonymous selection process was led by RE:Her's Director of Grant Relations Kimberly Velazco and a team of hospitality and business experts. We are pleased to introduce you to the entire committee.

Kimberly Velazco

RE:Her Director of Grant Relations 

Kimberly’s career spans 20+ years in the nonprofit and philanthropic sectors. In 2008, Kimberly joined The James Irvine Foundation working to align the mission of the foundation with that of expanding opportunity for disenfranchised grantee communities in the arts. Additionally, she was the founding co-chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council for the Foundation which encompassed informing, deepening and scaling the impact of DEI.

Kimberly continues her work in the arts, education and philanthropy through Southern California Blacks in Philanthropy (SCBIP), Southern California Grantmakers Black Women in Philanthropy and Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP). Kimberly is a philanthropic consultant to various organizations including Elizabeth House, Ezrach Brain Trust Association, Pasadena Education Network and Regarding Her Food. She is a board member of Pursue You Too, an organization dedicated to the holistic empowerment of women. Kimberly received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, with a minor in Spanish, from the University of California, Riverside.

Kimberly is also chef and owner of Alice’s Southern Comfort. Alice’s Southern Comfort features savory filé gumbo and rich southern dishes and desserts. She is a contributing author to California Mosaic, a cookbook that celebrates the food and mosaic diversity throughout Southern California. Kimberly resides in the San Gabriel Valley with her two sons, Vincent & Benjamin.
